Help Support Lacrosse in Miami-Dade Public Schools

A stated goal of Miami-Dade County Public Schools is the provision of athletic opportunities to all high school students. In order to increase the playing opportunities for Lacrosse players and facilitate the scheduling of games, the sport needs to be recognized by the FHSAA as a varsity sport. The high school lacrosse booster clubs will finance 100% of the cost to play, including subsidies for those players who cannot afford to pay.

Please take a minute to sign the petition and support the cause to recognize lacrosse as a varsity sport in miami-dade county public schools.

Lacrosse Coach Jeff Goldberg Leaves Saint Andrew’s

full article can be found at laxpower.com

Saint Andrew’s School has announced a change in the leadership of its boys’ varsity lacrosse program. The school and head coach Jeff Goldberg have mutually agreed to move forward separately, allowing Coach Goldberg to pursue his interests more fully through his Premier Players Lacrosse Academy, which offers a multitude of services for young athletes and coaches to excel in lacrosse.

more on this story from the SAS website:

Goldberg leaves Saint Andrew’s following a period of unprecedented success for the lacrosse program. The Saint Andrew’s School lacrosse program has ranked in the top 20 national teams for the last 3 years and earned recognition as the number one lacrosse program in the Southeast by LaxPower.com and InsideLacrosse.com. He has helped Saint Andrew’s develop an alumni collegiate network at some of the nation’s finest universities, including Yale, Johns Hopkins, Brown, Dartmouth, Virginia, and Notre Dame. Overall, the Saint Andrew’s School community is grateful to Goldberg and will always honor the legacy left by his work.

“Coach Goldberg’s departure from Saint Andrew’s School is a significant loss,” said Ahern. “Over the course of the last 18 years he led the program to numerous club and state titles and has built the team to a national standard, doing so with an emphasis on sportsmanship. However, even more importantly, Goldberg’s teams not only had significant success on the field, but his players also achieved outstanding success in the classroom.”

Dr. Ann Marie Krejcarek, School Headmaster, also recognizes Coach Goldberg’s renowned accomplishments.

“I extend my own deep appreciation to Jeff Goldberg for building a successful lacrosse club program and then moving that club lacrosse program into the realm of a recognized FHSAA High School state team,” stated Krejcarek. “I also must note the generous support of our athletic department, the Booster Club, and the parents who have all been a part of this program’s success. It has been a team effort, but we have been fortunate to have a legendary coach at the helm of our lacrosse program in Coach Goldberg. We wish Jeff the best of luck and success in his professional lacrosse endeavors.”

Saint Andrew’s School is pleased to name former associate head coach R.J. Dawson as its new interim boys’ head coach and will open a national search for the 2011-2012 lacrosse program.

Vero Beach HS Girls Lacrosse advances to FHSAA Final Four

Story from TCPalm.com Prepzone By Laurel Pfahler

Even when the Vero Beach girls lacrosse team is not at its best, the Fighting Indians are unbeatable.

The Indians (19-0) advanced to their seventh straight Final Four with a 24-2 win over Olympia in the second round of state tournament play-in games Friday, despite being off in their passing game that typically nears flawlessness.

Vero Beach, which has won four straight on-the-field state titles and 25 consecutive playoff games, will face Winter Springs, a 19-13 winner over Ponte Vedra, in the state semifinals April 23 in Winter Garden.

“(Olympia) is a three-time district champion, and this was a regional final,” Vero Beach coach Shannon Dean said. “They are a good team. That’s just a gage of where our program is at. The final score is a product of our hard work.”

Dean chalked up the off-target and dropped passes — which came early in the first half and toward the end of the game — to adrenaline, as the Vero Beach seniors were playing their final home game.

But even with some struggles, Vero Beach had no trouble putting away the Titans. The Indians, who are ranked fifth in the nation, have outscored their Florida opponents 273-46 this season, and finding the net was never a problem Friday.

Vero Beach jumped to a 12-0 lead before the Titans got on the board in just their third attack of the game with 1:25 left in the first half. The score was 13-1 at halftime, but the Indians couldn’t hold back as they prepare for another state title.

“These games are us tuning up for the big show,” senior midfielder Krista Grabher said. “We need them to warm up for the last two games. People don’t realize how hard we work. It’s the playoffs. They made the regional final too, and we will never reach our best if we don’t play our best.”
